假若复数的名词当着形容词时来用时，我们须把复数的名词换着单数来用。

There are a lot of books in my room. 在我的房间有很多的书。

There is a book-exhibition in the school hall. 在学校礼堂有书展。

在这里Books 变成 book了，但你不能争论说书展只有一本书，因为 book exhibition 是复合名词 (compound noun) 不能分开来读。

My teeth are not clean. I want to buy toothbrush and toothpaste.

我的牙齿不干净,我想要买牙刷和牙膏。

Teeth 是复数名词，当它变成复合名词 (compound noun)时，就要改成单数名词。

This rack is 6 feet but we require a 5 foot rack.

有人会困惑也许是看到以下的句子。

He is six feet tall. 哎！为什么不是 He is six foot tall 呢？

上面的句子中的six feet tall和60 years old 不是复合名词 (compound noun)，tall和old

是形容词，所以用回复数。
