crematorium to be built at the foothill of Kek Lok Si?????

There was a signature campaign for petition against the proposed crematorium to be built at foothill of Kek Lok Si. The campaign was carried out in Air Itam Dam. The campaigners hoped to collect as many signatures as possible to signify the protest of those environmentalists as well as those leisure walkers who enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Air Itam Dam.

Air Itam dam is situated strategically in a catchment area. I just wonder what is the logic behind of approving the application ( if there is ) by the authority to build a crematorium at the greenly, hilly and tranquil place. The existence of the cremation, if approved given, would greatly affect the hilly picturesque Air Itam Dam. The felling of trees, leveling of slopes for construction of crematorium and emission of smoke would be an ugly scene.

It is hoped that the purported crematorium is just a hearsay, otherwise it will be a great mockery on the “Greener Cleaner Penang” campaigned by the Penang State Government
