One of the reasons for traffic stagnation and congestion is the existence of traffic lights. Installation of traffic lights on the roads interrupts the smooth flow of traffic and causes long queue of vehicles waiting light to turn green. Can the local authority while approving construction of high rise buildings impose a condition that requires developers to build an underground crossing for the pedestrians.
High rise buildings especially shopping malls because of its indoor parking lots and residents will have continuous inflow and outflow of vehicles from and onto the main roads and the situation will become worse during the peak hour. To ease the traffic congestion, the present viable solution by the local authority is the installation of traffic light which is economical. However, it is the root cause of traffic stagnation. To reduce and minimize the traffic congestion, it is high time our local authority took initiative constructing basement pedestrian crossing.
There are still many lands waiting for the constructions, the emergence of these buildings in those areas will surely attract additional volume of traffic which directly impedes the traffic flow. In view of this, will the local authority look into the possibility of building basement pedestrian crossing ?
